Constanze Quartet

Sara Mayer, violin,
Dorothea Galler, viola,
Julia Ammerer – Simma, cello
The musical paths of the four musicians of the Constanze Quartet, hailing from various countries and continents, were all destined to converge in the small yet uniquely global music metropolis of Salzburg. Mozart’s birthplace became the ideal artistic breeding ground for the diverse temperaments from France, Armenia, and Austria to find a common musical language. After an attention-grabbing live performance at Radio France in Paris in 2018, they followed up with a notable success as finalists at the “Eugène Ysaÿe” Chamber Music Competition in Liège, and then secured 3rd place at the international Anton Rubinstein Competition in Düsseldorf. Their engagement by the German CD label CPO caused a stir. They made the first complete recording of the string quartets of the late Romantic German composer Felix Draeseke, which was met with great success by the press. This was followed by the production of all the string quartets of Michael Haydn and those of Emilie Mayer, a contemporary of Beethoven. The quartet received valuable insights through collaborations with artists from the Casals Quartet, Rainer Schmidt (Hagen Quartet), William Coleman (Kuss Quartet), Milan Milojicic (Minetti Quartet), Lavard Skou-Larsen, among others. The ensemble’s repertoire spans all genres but places a particular emphasis on undiscovered composers from past eras. The Constanze Quartet is regularly invited to perform at festivals and on tours in Europe and America.
