The programme centres on Giuseppe Tartini, a key figure in eighteenth-century violin art, whose music combines expressive intensity with rich ornamentation. It unfolds around three themes: inspiration, ornamentation, and variation. Through transcriptions and contemporary reinterpretations, Baroque music continues to live in the present, as old material is transformed into new sound worlds. The art of ornamentation reveals a freer and more creative dimension of this repertoire, where embellishment becomes expression and invention. Variation permeates the entire programme as a unifying principle: each repetition becomes a transformation in a constant dialogue between past and present.

Tommaso Luison, violinist and musicologist, is devoted to a broad violin repertoire, ranging from early and folk music to contemporary musical languages, as well as the classical and lyrical-symphonic tradition. He graduated with the highest marks from the Conservatory in Vicenza and pursued further studies with renowned teachers including Domenico Nordio, Ilya Grubert, and Enzo Porta. As a soloist, chamber musician, and concertmaster, he collaborates with distinguished ensembles and orchestras and performs across Europe, the United States, and Asia. He is especially dedicated to historically informed performance practice, the Tartini school, and the Italian violin tradition of the eighteenth century. As a musicologist, he participates in conferences and contributes to the National Edition of Tartini’s works for Bärenreiter. He is also active as a teacher and, since the 2022/2023 academic year, has been a full professor of violin at the “E. F. Dall’Abaco” Conservatory in Verona.

Giancarlo Trimboli is a cellist who graduated from the Conservatory in Castelfranco Veneto and obtained his master’s degree with honours from the Conservatory in Rovigo. He then continued his studies with renowned musicians including R. Filippini, E. Bronzi, E. Dindo, G. Horsch, and M. Brunello. He has devoted much of his work to chamber music and, with Trio Malipiero, won numerous prizes at national and international competitions, performing across Europe and Asia. He has collaborated with many Italian orchestras and was a permanent member of the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto for fifteen years, where he also served as principal cello. He is also active in contemporary music and historically informed performance practice, including as a Baroque cellist and continuo player with the ensemble Il Cenacolo Musicale. His discography includes recordings for Deutsche Grammophon, Decca, L’Oiseau-Lyre, Brilliant, CPO, and Bongiovanni. He is currently a full professor at the V. Bellini Conservatory in Catania.

The Tartini in Ljubljana concert series is supported by the City of Ljubljana.
