Pierre-Laurent Boucharlat

Pierre-Laurent Boucharlat, piano

In September 2000, Pierre-Laurent Boucharlat recorded Chopin’s 24 études, propelling him onto the international stage. This French pianist, known for his sensitivity and emotive playing, has since performed across Europe, Asia, and North America. Boucharlat’s repertoire spans solo recitals to orchestral concertos, including premieres of musical dramas and lecture concerts. An acclaimed Beethoven specialist, he is frequently invited for concerts, broadcasts, and masterclasses worldwide. He is currently recording Beethoven’s complete 32 sonatas, with four CDs released. Critics praise the “French elegance” of his interpretations, especially of 20th-century French repertoire (Debussy, Fauré, Ravel, Poulenc). As a sought-after chamber musician, Boucharlat has collaborated with many international artists and extensively performed Brahms’s chamber works. Since his orchestral debut at thirteen, he has played about twenty concertos with numerous orchestras globally. Contemporary composers also value him; Gérard Gastinel and Juan-Francisco Tortosa-Esteve have dedicated works to him. Boucharlat has performed live on France Musique, recorded “The Carnival of the Animals” with Anne Roumanoff, and appeared on various French and international TV channels. A graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon and the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris, he studied under Monique Deschaussées. He has received the Darius Milhaud (1997) and Spedidam (1999) prizes. As artistic director of Musicales en Tricastin and adviser for Ecully’s concert season, his discography includes Beethoven, Schumann, Mussorgsky, Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, and Chopin.
